The rules are simple - Add your link to MckLinky there (using the new format posted), POST ABOUT THE HOP ON YOUR BLOG, and start hopping around and visiting other links that are posted! If you start following someone through the Hop, leave a comment on their blog to let them know! Stop back during the week to see other blogs that are added! And, most importantly, the idea is to HAVE FUN!!

So, let's do the Hop!

Friday 56 - Undone by Rachel Caine

Rules:

Grab the book nearest you. Right now.

Turn to page 56.

It's a Michael Grant Giveaway!

Blogging about books is having a contest for the new Michael Grant book, Lies.

This is the 3rd book in his series about Perdido Beach, a peaceful little town that dissolves into utter chaos when everyone over 15 disappears one day. It's a fun, exciting YA series that should appeal to readers of all ages.

If you haven't read the first two books, Gone and Hunger, this is a great time to do that - the contest is for an ARC of Lies - so you could read the first two before the end of the contest and get to read book three before it's even out!

Contest: Numbers by Rachel Ward

Darcy at the Library Lounge Lizard is having a contest for multiple copies of Numbers by Rachel Ward.  I have heard soooooo much about this book, I just can't wait for it to come out!  The cover is intriguing, and interesting - if I had heard nothing about this book yet I would pick it up to check it out just from the cover!

It's Monday What Are You Reading?

This fantastic meme is now hosted by Sheila at One Person's Journey Through a World of Books.

Spring Break Reading Challenge

Spring Break Reading Challenge #3 -
1. Title and author of the book you are reading.
2. Include the cover of the book.
3. Synopsis
4. What do you think about the book so far?
5. Does the author have a website or blog? If so, insert a link in your post.

Be sure to link to your direct post using Mr. Linky in order to be eligible for the book giveaway.

I am reading The Crossroads Cafe by Deborah Smith

Synopsis from Amazon:  "Cathy is on top of the world--beautiful, rich, a top movie star about to launch a new career as a cosmetics queen--when an unscrupulous photographer in search of a story causes her car to crash and burn, destroying her perfect body as well as her career and sending her scurrying for a place to hide her scars. Thomas, on the other hand, is still mourning the deaths of his wife and young son in the September 11 attack on the World Trade Center and is slowly drinking himself to death while sleeping in the bed of his truck in an isolated hamlet in the North Carolina Blue Ridge Mountains. Together, however, they find they are stronger and better people, and they begin to take an active interest in the mountain community that has taken them both into their hearts, and into their kitchens."

So far I love this book.  I am reading it on the Kindle (my first ever Kindle book) and am very impressed, both with the Kindle and the story.  The author creates amazing characters - both human and animal.  I find myself not wanting to put the Kindle down.  The lives of those characters are well constructed.  I love the strong women and the references to the ideals and things in life that the people in the Crossroads charish.   I know that when I finish this story I will be looking for more books by Deborah Smith.  You can click on her name above and go to her website.

Spring Break Reading Challenge - 2010

This is my first blog post for the Spring Break Reading Challenge hosted by Karin Librarian! The Challenge runs March 12 - March 21, 2010.  Goals....that is the topic today.  Wow - this should be easy, but I don't want to be unrealistic and set some lofty "will read so many books" goal - because I realize that what I lack more than anything is time.  So, with that in mind...

My goal:
Simply to take the time to read EVERY day: before 10:00 pm. I usually end up taking time from the night (between midnight and 3 am) when I really should be sleeping.

The Page Masters Reading Club

I am the advisor for a reading club at a middle/high school. We have just over 200 members in a school whose student population is just over 600. The club encompasses all grades, 6-12. It is called the Page Masters and you can check it out by clicking here. Click on High School, student groups, Page Masters.  I am always looking for great ways to encourage students to read and I would love ideas on how to keep the kids involved in the club as they get older.   Anyone else out there have any YA groups?

Awards!

I have received three awards! From the Serpentine Library and also one from Kathy at Ms. Martin Teaches Media.

39 Clues

This post is just a heads up for those of you who are looking for a book with "a little bit more" for your readers. I would say it is for young readers, upper elementary through early high school age - but a friend and I both go here and love it. We are well above that age group.

The books I am talking about are the 39 Clues. It is a book series from Scholastic. The series currently has 8 books, but there will be 10. The books all build upon each other. The main characters are two young children, Amy and Dan Cahill, and they are on a hunt for 39 clues. The hunt takes them all over the world, the winner becomes the most powerful, influencial person on the planet. The catch is that the whole Cahill family, there are four branches in the family filled with famous people from the past, are also searching for the clues.

The website links the books with clues, puzzles, and games on the internet. The site has missions for each book. Each book comes with collector cards, you can also buy card packs. You log your cards, solve the puzzles, and collect the clues.

The opportunity to play games on the computer is enough to get some kids to check out the books, the story keeps them going. I love the idea of combining books, card collecting, and technology! It gives us the chance to reach so many more kids than any one of the three alone!

Wanting to Read Wednesday!

A couple weeks ago I was "Waiting" for this book - this week I am "Wanting to Read" this book - - it is, of course, the newest Kim Harrison - Black Magic Sanction. A friend and I went to the book signing in Roseville on Monday, where we met Kim Harrison while she signed all our books! It was a super time and I had a lot of fun. I learned a lot about how she works and how the story seems to play out for her.
Check out more waiting and wanting at Breaking the Spine!
